Some of the team ski-toured up to Loch Etchachan via the Hutchison hut, hard going lower down in poor snow but worth the effort, part of the tour included practising digging emergency shelters.

A busy time for mountain rescue! Various call-outs have taken place over the past week. As you can see snow cover is plentiful in the Cairngorms (hover over images for details).

02/02/13 - Avalanche Search Management Course
Braemar MRT hosted an avalanche search management course in early Feb, run for the Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland. These courses are run at various locations across the country and cover a range of topics at different times of the year. This course includes night exercises based around critical avalanche incidents.

06/01/13 - Coire Kander
Exiting from Coire Kander after taking the opportunity to construct and demonstrate the use of snow anchors for our training logbooks.

05/01/13 - Glenshee Hills

01/01/13 - Lochnagar
A few team members enjoyed a social trip to Lochnagar, via Glas Allt on 1st January. We have been making this trip for many years and this was the first time we never met anyone!

13/12/12 - Loch Callater
Today saw some of the team training above Loch Callater where various Winter skills were practised followed by a wee navigation excercise, a quality day to be out, cold and mixed visibility.

10/12/12 - Central Cairngorms
Call-out on Monday 10th December for overdue walkers. Images are from central Cairngorms, mostly Lairig an Laoigh/Fords of Avon/Bynack More. Snow cover is builiding up.

05/12/12 - Glasgow
Congratulations to Phil Glennie who has been named Workplace First Aider of the Year at an event in Glasgow organised by St Andrew's First Aid. Phil delivers much of the team's first aid training.

02/12/12 - Lochnagar
Two of the team's members enjoyed early winter conditions and a blue sky day on Lochnagar's Central Buttress on Sunday.

20/11/12 - Dunkeld
Team members taking advantage of Land Rover Experience Scotland's training centre at Dunkeld this week in training for their offroad instructor assessments.

17/11/12 - Morrone
Night driver training in preparation for the winter months ahead.

04/11/12 - Bheinn a'Bhuird
Sunday 4th November saw a few of the team and friends out for an early season tour on Bheinn a'Bhuird. Good snow on top; ran out at c. 850m though you could pick your way down to below that level with care.

28/10/12 - Derry Cairngorm
A training day on Sunday 28th October saw us head over Derry Cairngorm to the Shelter Stone crag. Wintry underfoot above c. 850m with some ice forming in gullies and burn lines.

25/10/12 - Lochnagar
Today saw some of the team training in the corrie of Lochnagar in the Sunset buttress area in the southern sector of the Corrie, you can see Allan abseiling down from the top of the buttress and Cliff about to lead off with Allison belaying.

Once we had finished our steep ground work (in snow showers) we then navigated along onto Cuidhe Crom and then down to the plane wreckage on Cuidhe Crom's flanks, a good day had by all. Weather was changeable with a cold north wind.

11/10/12 - Hutchison Memorial Hut
Some of the team taking the opportunity to have a quick bite to eat after receiving confirmation that a lost walker has been found.

16/09/12 - Lochnagar
This how the team carry 300m ropes to the crag top.

Cliff rescue take a lot of people to support the rescuer going down to the casualty.

A few of the team were out today marshalling at the hill race.

19/08/12 - Linn of Corriemulzie
First training session after our summer training break gave us the perfect conditions to try out our new Larkin Rescue Frame (see blog entry 28/03/12). Following a brief introduction and a few test runs in a field we rigged up the frame and lowered a couple of team members down towards the Corriemulzie Burn.
